Ethnikos Achna to finally lose? – Cyprus 2nd Division previews for Game Week 13

Here are the Cyprus 2nd Division previews for the Game Week 13.

This is the final round before a small winter break. The league will be back just at the start of January. Olympiakos leads the league with Ethnikos Achna, Othellos Athienou and Aris Limassol all chasing them. Olympiakos has a fairly easy home game against Digenis, but all the other have a tricky away match this round against good home teams.

Friday 21 December

EN THOI Lakatamia vs Othellos 19:00 Stadio Lakatamias

The home side has dropped a bit of form as they have not won in their last four games and are currently on 8th position. They have one of the best defenses in the league but their offense has only scored 10 goals in their 12 games making them the 2nd worse offensive team after MEAP Nisou. They are difficult to beat at home with their only home loss coming against Ayia Napa in October. The next three home games have ended 0-0. This will most likely not happen here against one of the best offensive teams in the league.

Othellos Athienou is 3rd in the league at the moment and a win here would move them top of the league temporarily at least. They have scored 30 goals in the league which is the best record by far. Most of that though is thanks to their home form (6-1-0) as away from home they have not been that good (1-1-3). Those 3 losses though away from home have come in their first two away games against Onisilos and AE Zakakiou (both 2-1) and in their last away game against leaders Olympiakos, also 2-1. They have scored in each of their away games so far.

Prediction: Othellos is the big favourite but the odds for them is way too low. EN THOI has a good defense so they can easily defend a draw. Under 2.5 goals though is the main pick. If EN THOI defends like they have all this season, the under should happen.

Olympiakos vs Digenis Voroklinis 14:30 Makareio Stadium, Nicosia

Olympiakos drew their last match against Asil Lysi, but that just extended their unbeaten streak to 10 games (8W 2D). They lead the league with 3 points and they are desperate to extend that lead here against relegation candidate Digenis Voroklinis.

Olympiakos is a great offensive team as in those 10 games, they have failed to score under 2 goals only once (1-1 draw). Their success comes in the form of a not so good defense as in those 10 games, they also managed to keep a clean sheet only twice.

Digenis beat MEAP Nisou in their last game which ended their 5 game winless streak (1D 4L).  Their away form is poor as they have only gotten 2 points from their 6 away games so far. In their last 5 away games they have conceded at least 2 goals in each.

Prediction:Olympiakos to win with over 2.5 goals in the match

Karmiotissa vs ASIL Lysi 14:30 Dimotiko Stadio Pano Polemidias

Karmiotissa has seen a bit of drop in form as they have not won in their last 3 games and have dropped to 7th position in the standings. Most of this is thanks to their poor away form. At home they are still undefeated with a 4-2-0 record.

ASIL Lysi has seen a bit of decent form recently with wins over Aris and Digenis Voroklinis and a draw in their last match against leaders Olympiakos. This good form is limited to home games though as away from home they have lost their last 3 games. To be fair though, all those losses have come against good teams like Ethnikos Achna and Othellos.

Prediction: ASIL Lysi is a good team and they can get something here. X2 Double chance

Akritas vs Aris 14:30 Koinotiko Stadio, Chlorakas

Akritas is like two different teams; one at home (4-0-1) and one at away (2-0-5). At home they have lost only to Onisilos and that was also the only match where they conceded goals at home. Aris Limassol is one of the favourites for promotion but their away record is a bit sketchy with 1-2-2. Their biggest problem has been in scoring goals as in those five games they have only scored 2 goals. Defense has been good with only 3 goals conceded.

Aris defense could be the key here. Akritas is a good home team, but in their latest games, mainly away, their defense has leaked. In their last 4 games, they have conceded 16 goals. Maybe this leaky defense follows them now to their home games.

Prediction: Aris to win.

PAEEK – Anagennisi Deryneia 14:30 Gipedo PAEEK Keryneia Epistrofi

PAEEK ended their 9 match winless streak last week when they beat Omonia Aradippou 2-4 away from home. They are still in the relegation zone though. Since then they also played in the Cup on Wednesday and lost 0-4 to Nea Salamina. The biggest problem they have had is defense as they have conceded 2 or more goals in their last 9 matches.

Anagennisi started their season poorly but in their recent results they have been performing better. In their last five games they have won three and drawn once. Their only loss in those five games came to Olympiakos. Their away form though is concerning. They have earned only 1 point from their five games, but that came in their last match. This should improve in time.

Prediction: Anagennisi to win.

Ayia Napa vs Omonia Aradippou 14:30 Dimotiko Stadio Ayia Napa

The home team was on a 7 match unbeaten run until last weekend when they lost 2-1 to Ethnikos Achnas, the only undefeated team in the league. They also played now during the week in the Cup where they lost 5-0 to APOEL.

After a good start to their season, Omonia Aradippou has sunken fairly low. In their last 10 games they have lost 8 and won two. Especially away from home they have been bad as they have lost all their games so far. All the games have been tight though as only one of those losses was with more than 1 goal.

Prediction: Ayia Napa to win with 1 goal exactly.

Onisilos vs Ethnikos Achna 14:30 Dimotiko Stadio Sotiras

This is the top match of the round with 5th placed Onisilos playing against undefeated Ethnikos Achna. Onisilos has been the surprise team this season and they are in awesome form with 7 matches unbeaten (4W 3D). The newly promoted team has been very good at home with 3 wins, 1 draw and 1 loss that came in the hands of leaders Olympiakos.

Ethnikos Achna is chasing that promotion to get back to the 1st Division and they have started their season really well with no defeats so far. In the beginning they played too many draws, but they have won their last 3 games.

Prediction: Ethnikos is very good in defending away from home. Onisilos is not that big in scoring either so main pick is under 2.5 goals.

MEAP Nisou vs AE Zakakiou 14:30 Koinotiko Stadio Pera Choriou

Newly promoted MEAP Nisou started the season well with good defense but lately that defense has shown some cracks. This is bad news for them as their offense is the worst in the league. AE Zakakiou hoped for a better start to the season but they are bottom of the league with seven games winless streak.  Zakakiou has drawn two of their last 3 games and their performances have improved. They are not that easy to beat anymore. They can score goals, but defense is still too leaky.

Prediction: Both teams to score and over 2.5 goals.
