Cyprus 2nd Division – The First round ends this weekend

Here are the Cyprus 2nd Division previews for the Game Week 15.

This the the Game Week 15 in the Cyprus 2nd Division and this closes the first round of the league. The Top-4 are within 3 points and all of the teams play away this weekend. Leaders Ethnikos Achna is away to AE Zakakiou, Olympiakos visits EN THOI Lakatamia, Othellos travel to bottom club PAEEK and Aris Limassol  face out of form Ayia Napa.

Friday 11 January

EN THOI Lakatamia vs Olympiakos Nicosia 19:00 Stadio Lakatamias

In the only match of Friday, the out of form EN THOI Lakatamia entertain 2nd placed Olympiakos Nicosia. EN THOI Lakatamia has failed to win in their last 6 games with 3 draws and 3 losses. The thing though is that all those draws have come at home. In their six home games this season, they have only lost to Ayia Napa 1-2. The other home games have ended in one win and four draws. EN THOI has an excellent defense as they have only conceded 14 goals this season which is tied to the second best record in the league behind Ethnikos Achna. Their problem is goal scoring as with 12 goals they have the second worst record in the league. They brought in Greek forward Georgios Tsirlidis from Acharnaikos, but time will tell if he can actually be an asset.

Olympiakos after losing their two opening games have been undefeated ever since. The streak now extends to 12 games. Lately though their results have lagged a bit as two of their last 3 games have ended in draws, most recently at home against Karmiotissa. They are a very good offensive team as they have scored in every game since their two opening round losses. Defensively they have not been that good as they have only kept 2 clean sheets all season.

Prediction: This will be a tough game for the visitors against a good defensive unit as they have kept for instance both Othellos (1-1) and Ethnikos Achna (0-0) in check. Main pick here is under 2.5 goals but the draw with under 2.5 goals at 5.25 odds is very tempting for riskier bettors.

Saturday 12 January

Karmiotissa vs Digenis Voroklinis 14:30 Dimotiko Stadio Pano Polemidias

Karmiotissa has been out of form as they have failed to win in their last 5 games, but they are still on 6th position. The top-4 are a bit running away so they need to start winning and soon. This will give them an excellent chance to do that as Digenis is the worst away team in the league with only 2 points from seven games and they are a team fighting to avoid relegation this season.

Despite not winning in five games, Karmiotissa got a big 1-1 away draw against then leaders Olympiakos Nicosia in the last round. Away matches have not been that good for them this season so it was a huge result. At home they have been solid with a 4-2-1 record. They are not that good defensively at home as they have kept only 2 clean sheets and this will give Digenis some hope.

Digenis Voroklinis has lost their last 3 games with a goal difference of 3-12 which shows that their main problem is with the defense. Offensively they have been decent with 17 goals and only failed to score 3 times this season.

Prediction: Everything here points to a home win, but to get some odds value, the main pick is home win with both teams to score.

Akritas vs ASIL Lysi 14:30 Koinotiko Stadio Chlorakas

After a good start to the season, Akritas has lost their last 3 games and dropped to 10th position. The newly promoted team is only 3 points ahead of the relegation zone and now they face a tough match against 5th placed ASIL Lysi who have gotten 10 points from their last 4 games.

The main problem for Akritas is their defense. They have conceded 30 goals in their 14 games which is the second worst record in the league. Offensively they have scored 20 which is the 5th best record making their games full of goals. Their 3.57 goals per game record is the highest in the league, together with Othellos. Most of those goals though are away from home. At home they have a good record of 4 wins and 2 losses with a goal difference of 11-6. In all of their home games that they have won, they have kept a clean sheet. In their last home game they lost 2-4 for Aris Limassol.

ASIL Lysi plays tight matches but in most cases they come out on top. They beat EN THOI Lakatamia in their last game 4-1, but that was their first game this season where they have won by more than 1 goal. They struggled a bit early in the season in finding goals and they lacked thus wins. Now they have made their game a bit more offensive, which creates more goals and gives them more wins. Defensively though, they are lacking as they have failed to keep a clean sheet in their last 5 games.

Prediction: Main pick is both teams to score and in that case, it should end up in an away win.

PAEEK vs Othellos 14:30 Gipedo PAEEK Keryneia Epistrofi

PAEEK has improved a lot lately having played some tight games. They have earned 5 points from their last 5 games, losing only to two top-4 teams, Ethnikos Achna (0-2) and Aris Limassol (2-1). Still though they are bottom of the league. Their current home form is awful. After surprising in their home opener and beating Olympiakos 2-0, they lost four games in a row without scoring any goals. This changed luckily in their last home match where they earned a 1-1 draw against Anagennisi Deryneia.

Now they meet one of the promotion candidates Othellos Athienou who are currently on 3rd position just 3 points behind the two leading teams. Othellos has been fairly active in the transfer window by letting Stelios Parpas and Yoann Tribeau move on and acquiring Alexis Theocharous from Alki and goalkeeper Pulpo Romero. They will need all the help they can get if they want to climb over the leading two teams and into promotion. They also need to improve on their away form as they have won only 1 game out of six on the road.

Prediction: We will go with a surprise here. PAEEK is not playing badly and they can get something from this match. 1X Double chance.

Ayia Napa vs Aris Limassol 14:30 Dimotiko Stadio Ayia Napa

Ayia Napa has had a rollercoaster ride of a season with first starting poorly by losing the opening 4 games. They then improved by playing seven matches (4W 3D) without a loss and now they have lost again three in a row. The former 1st Division team is on 12th position and only a better goal difference keeps them from the relegation zone. Aris Limassol on the other hand is back in promotion mode by winning their last 3 games and they are now 4th, just 3 points behind the leaders.

With the exception of the 0-4 loss to Omonia Aradippou, Ayia Napa has not been playing too badly. They lost to leaders Ethnikos and Anagennisi by only 1 goal. The team does not have that many main problems, just inconsistency. Ayia Napa is 2-1-3 at home this season, but the thing that worries most in this match is that they have lost to all the Top-3 teams so far. Will Aris be next? Ayia Napa has gotten some players to strengthen them as defender Mertakas and forward Rowe moved to Ayia Napa from neighbors and top league team Enosis Neon Paralimni.

Aris Limassol is desperate to get back into the 1st Division after their relegation. They have scored less goals than the three teams above them so they got themselves a striker in the transfer window with Portuguese Romeu Torres moving to Limassol. Aris cannot afford to drop points but Ayia Napa is also desperate so this will be a tight match. Aris is 2-2-2 away from home but you should expect that record to improve.

Prediction: Aris to win by exactly 1 goal.

Onisilos vs Anagennisi Deryneia 14:30 Dimotiko Stadio Sotiras

Onisilos is one of the better newly promoted teams but they have also failed to win in their last 3 games and have dropped to 7th position. Now they face Anagennisi Derryneia who are making a bit of a comeback as they are 3-2-0 in their last 5 games.

Onisilos has been very good at home where they play a bit more defensive. They have lost only twice at home and both were against the Top-2 teams, Ethnikos Achna and Olympiakos and only by 1 goal. All their wins though also have come by only 1 goal.

Anagennisi started the season poorly but are improving game after game. However, they are still without a win on the road. They have only 2 draws from six away games and if they want to get out of relegation trouble, they need to improve this record. The biggest problem away from home has been their goal scoring with only 3 goals scored. They have conceded 9 goals away from home, but Olympiakos scored 4 of those. beyond that, all their losses have come by 1 goal.

Prediction: Two low scoring teams, so main pick is under 2.5 goals. There is value also with the X2 considering the form the away team is on right now.

MEAP Nisou vs Omonia Aradippou 14:30 Koinotiko Stadio Pera Choriou

MEAP Nisou is struggling at the moment with only 2 points from their last 5 games. They are 14th at the moment and relegation is a big possibility for them. Omonia Aradippou has been very inconsistent this season, but they have won their last two games by scoring 4 goals on both so they are on the up. They are currently 9th.

MEAP Nisou had to put a defender in goal in their last defeat to Ethnikos Achna. Now they have Croatian keeper Bukovski so that should not be an issue. MEAP would also need some forward players to get out of their jam as they have only scored 10 goals this season which is the lowest amount in the league. Their biggest strength is their home games where they have lost only once this season. This was the 2-3 loss to Akritas and that was the only game that has gone over 2.5 goals for them at home this season. With a good goalkeeper, they will try to keep that here.

Omonia Aradippou had a lot of problems in October-November where they lost 5 games in a row. They are now on a 2 game winning streak after they found a way to score goals. Out of their 19 goals this season, 8 have been scored in their last two games. They beat Ayia Napa 0-4 in their last away game and that was their first away win of the season having lost the previous five matches. No idea which Omonia comes out here. The goalscoring one or the losing one.

Prediction: Omonia is too heavily favoured here. Main pick under 2.5 goals and also 1X double chance.

AE Zakakiou vs Ethnikos Achna 14:30 Gipedo Zakakiou

AE Zakakiou has had a bad season so far but their results are improving. They have lost only once in their last 5 games (1-3-1) and are just in the relegation zone because of goal difference. Ethnikos Achna is the only undefeated team still remaining in the league and they lead the Cyprus 2nd division by goal difference.

AE Zakakiou is a former 1st Division team and they are a better team than what the standings might let you think. They have had a horrible defense all season but lately they have started to find the net which has led to slightly better results. They beat Digenis 1-3 in their last match which was their first win since 21st of October. All their last five games have seen both teams to score with a goal difference of 10-9. They now brought a new goalkeeper into the team so we will see if he can help.

Ethnikos Achna has been strong all season but it is only lately that they have started to make the draws into wins. They are now on a 5-game winning streak with a goal difference of 14-3. Away from home they have an excellent defensive record with only 1 goal conceded in 6 games and that was against Olympiakos. They have earned 5 clean sheets away from home.

Prediction: Because of that defensive record, the main pick is under 2.5 goals which definitely has value. All of Ethnikos away games have gone under 2.5 goals this season.
