Cyprus 2nd Division previews: An Aris loss could end their promotion hopes

Here are the Cyprus 2nd Division previews for the Game Week 19.

There are 12 rounds left of the 2nd Division and the fight for promotion and relegation gets tighter. The big game is played on Sunday when Aris Limassol hosts Ethnikos Achna. A loss to the home side could almost end their promotion hopes.

Friday 8 February

Olympiakos vs Onisilos 19:00 Makareio Stadium

League leaders Olympiakos is continuing their fine form as they lost their first two games of the season but have since been undefeated. Their biggest strength is in their offense and they should be too strong here at home.

Onisilos got a big win last weekend which ended their five game losing streak. In their away games though they have struggled as in nine games they have conceded 20 goals. Against a strong offense, they could be in trouble here.

Prediction: Olympiakos to win with both teams to score.

EN THOI Lakatamias vs PAEEK 19:00 Stadio Lakatamias

EN THOI Lakatamia has gotten their season back on track after earning 7 points from their last 3 games. They beat Akritas away from home last weekend and that was already their 4th away win. At home they have lost only twice but at the same time they have only earned two wins also. They are now 5 points ahead of the relegation zone.

PAEEK will come into this match full of confidence as they beat Karmiotissa 3-1 last weekend for only their 4th win of the season. They are still in the relegation zone but at least now they have hope.

Prediction: Away win. This is an important match but the visitors will want it more.

Saturday 9 February

Anagennisi Deryneia vs Omonia Aradippou 15:00 Gipedo Anagennisi Deryneias

Anagennisi suffered a narrow 1-0 loss to 2nd placed Ethnikos Achna last week which ended their 8-game unbeaten streak. They are still in top form though and especially at home where they are 6-1-2 this season, they should do well here.

Omonia Aradippou got a big win last weekend which increased the gap to the relegation zone to 3 points. That away win against Digenis was only their second away win this season.

Prediction: Home win by exactly 1 goal. Out of the 6 away losses that they have had this season, five have been by 1 goal.

Othellos vs AE Zakakiou 15:00 Gipedo Othellos Athienou

Othellos is 5 points from the leaders Olympiakos and they are the best home team in the league after dropping points only once this season at home in a 0-0 with Ethnikos Achna. They have won their last 6 home games but still we question their promotion hopes. They might be happy to be a top team in the 2nd Division but investments in the 1st Division might be too much.

AE Zakakiou might be just two points from the relegation zone and they have lost their last two games, but still they are a decent team who are better than what their standings would show. Those two losses came against an excellent home team Anagennisi and against their promotion chasing city rivals Aris. In both cases they lost by 1 goal exactly.

Prediction: AE Zakakiou wants survival in the 2nd Division more than what Othellos wants promotion so X2 with a possibility of a straight away win also with small stakes.

ASIL Lysi vs MEAP Nisou 15:00 NeoGSZ Stadium

ASIL Lysi suffered a bad loss to Onisilos in the last round and now they meet another struggling team. They are an average team at the moment. They cannot fight for promotion and they are too good to get relegated. This shows in their results which have been inconsistent. They are 2-2-1 in their last 5 games. At home they are 4-2-0 in their last 6 games so you would expect them to fight in this one.

MEAP Nisou has had an awful season and this might be too tough of a division for them. They have not won in 9 games and in those 9 games they have earned only 3 points. Their last 4 away games have ended in losses with a goal difference of 4-13.

Prediction: ASIL Lysi to win with both teams to score.

Karmiotissa vs Ayia Napa 15:00 Dimotiko Stadio Pano Polemidias

Karmiotissa has been the most inconsistent team in the league with a 6-2-1 home record and a 1-2-6 away record. They are good enough not to get relegated but not good enough to earn promotion. They are like ASIL Lysi and are stuck in the middle. Difficult to motivate players for this.

Ayia Napa should not have any problem motivating their players for this match as they are fighting to avoid relegation. With their loss to Olympiakos last weekend, they are only 1 point ahead of relegation and to a team their standard, it is tough. After they got a few new players, their performances have improved and they can give a fight for any team in this division.

Prediction: Away win.

Akritas vs Digenis Voroklinis 15:00 Koinotiko Stadio Chlorakas

This is a difficult and a must win match for both teams as both face relegation. Akritas has only gotten 1 point from their last 7 games with a goal difference of 8-23. Digenis has gotten 1 point from their last 6 games with a goal difference of 4-14. Relegation looks really close for both teams if their fortunes do not change.

Neither team knows how to defend as both have conceded 38 goals this season which is the biggest amount in the league. Digenis beat Akritas earlier in the season at home 2-0. The home side will want to avenge that.

Prediction: Digenis to win.

Sunday 10 February

Aris vs Ethnikos Achna 15:00 Tsirion Atletiko Kentro

This is the big match of the round and the most important. Aris is 6 points behind leaders Olympiakos and Ethnikos is 3 points behind the leaders. A loss to Aris might make the deficit on the leaders too big. Aris has been excellent at home with a 7-1-1 record with their only loss coming against Olympiakos. Ethnikos is 5-3-1 away from home and they have suffered only 1 loss all season

Prediction: Because this is such an important game, there should not be many goals. Under 2.5 goals is the main pick.
