This is the big Limassol Derby and it has not been this important for years. APOEL leads the league by just 1 point ahead of AEL and Apollon is further 1 point behind them. Whoever wins today will go top of the table. Apollon has dominated in their previous meetings winning the last three with goal difference 10-1. Before that the teams had played 4 games in a row 1-1. That draw results looks more likely at this moment.

Apollon suffered a bad 2-0 loss to Anorthosis in the last round. Even though there is a chance that the result will be overturned, they cannot trust that decision. They need to win the title on the football pitch. Apollon has lost only three times this season and two of those were against Anorthosis. They had their chances in the match last week but the new Anorthosis goalkeeper was able to save the day. At home infront of their own fans Apollon is 7-1-1 this season conceding only 7 goals. Only AEK Larnaca has conceded less at home this season. In those 9 games they have scored 27 goals which is by far the highest amount of any team in the league. Apollon will miss Sacchetti from this match who is an important missing linking the defense and the midfield.

AEL has had a very good season so far and they deserve still to be in the fight for the title despite the quality being a bit weaker than the giants APOEL and Apollon´s. They have been more consistent than their competitors so they deserve to be here. AEL has been very good against the bottom-6 teams but recently against the Top-6 they have struggled. If you count only the teams in the Top-6 right now, AEL has only gotten 1 point from their last 5 games. That was from their 0-0 draw last week. Before that they had lost to APOEL, Anorthosis, Nea Salamina and Apollon. They have failed to score a goal in their last 3 against those teams. This has to change if they really want to put together a title challenge this season.

Another Derby match and also an important one regarding qualifying for Europe. The Famagusta Derby has been a very tight fought contest with only 1 match in their last meetings been decided by more than 1 goal. Anorthosis has won 6 of those with Nea Salamina winning only 1. Earlier in the season Anorthosis earned a very late win with Joao Victor scoring 1-0 on added time.

Anorthosis earned a big win last weekend as they beat Apollon 2-0, but as everyone knows, that result can be overturned because of the questions raised of registration problems for Anorthosis´ new goalkeeper. Despite that, he seems to be a really good keeper and will help the team a lot. If they can fix their goalscoring problems, they can still fight for a Euro Cup place (as long as they do not get a points deduction). The team is desperate to get into Europe and they need to win this match. A draw will not be enough to fight against AEK who have resurrected. Anorthosis is 3-4-2 away from home this season and recently they have found games a bit difficult against Nea Salamina away from home with the match last year ending in a draw and Nea Salamina winning the year before that.

Nea Salamina had to settle for a 1-1 draw against Doxa in their last game, but at home they have been good with a 5-2-2 record. Their only losses coming against APOEL (2-3) and Apollon (0-3). They have beaten AEL, Omonia and drawn with AEK at home so they can be confident of beating their city rivals also now. Nea Salamina is not just fighting for a place to Europe but also for a place in the Top-6 before that. A win here would almost certainly mean that they will fight against the big boys after the regular season ends.

Prediction:

Under 2.5 goals. Nea Salamina draw no bet.
