Cyprus 1st Division previews: Who will lead after the regular season?

Cyprus 1st Division previews Sunday 24 February: Apollon or APOEL to lead the group to the playoffs?

Its final regular season round in the Cyprus 1st Division and on Sunday we have the three remaining matches. The biggest match of Sunday is the derby between the top-2 teams Apollon and APOEL. The other two matches are Nea Salamina vs Alki and AEK vs Enosis.

Sunday 24 February

Nea Salamina vs Alki 17:00 N. Papas group Ammochostos-Epistrofi, Larnaca
2.05 – 3.25 – 3.55 -Bet NOW with Winmasters

With Anorthosis losing 6 points, this means that Nea Salamina no longer have to win this match to be in the Top-6 but in order for them to fight maybe even for a Europa league spot, then they will want to win this match. Alki is fighting to avoid relegation so all points are necessary. Alki beat Nea Salamina 2-0 earlier in the season.

Even though Nea Salamina is going to the Top-6 Championship playoff rounds, their performances lately have not been that good. They are 1-1-3 in their last 3 games and basically they are out of the fight to get into Europe unless something catastrophic happens to AEK Larnaca´s form. Nea Salamina is 5-2-3 at home this season, but that won´t matter much here as Alki also plays at this stadium.

Alki may have not won in their last seven games (0-3-4) but all of their matches have been quite tight. Even in their 1-3 loss to Apollon in their last game, they played well and even a draw might not have been unjust. They might even be more motivated in this match than their hosts and might get something.

Prediction:

Alki draw no bet

Apollon vs APOEL 17:00 Tsirion Stadium, Limassol
2.25 – 3.60 – 2.80 -Bet NOW with Winmasters

Very important match. A win here for the hosts would put them four points ahead of APOEL with only 10 rounds to go. A loss would mean that APOEL top the table before the league splits into two. APOEL beat Apollon earlier in the season 5-1.

Despite Apollon leading the league, their performances have not been that good. They have not lost since the 5-1 rubbing done by APOEL in early December, but this record only holds as they were given the win against Anorthosis. They lost that match 1-0 on the playing field but the win was overturned due to Anorthosis playing with an illegible player. Apollon is 7-2-1 at home this season with their only loss coming also against Anorthosis.

APOEL has not played that well either as they have gotten only one win in their last 4 league games. They almost also lost in their last match to AEK as they were down 0-2 with 10 minutes to go, but managed somehow come back to draw 2-2. The team has problems scoring against tight defenses and also defensively they are not as solid. Last time these two teams met, APOEL was able to surprise Apollon with a high pressing game and they might do the same here.

Prediction:

Over 2.5 goals with both teams to score. Either team can win here.

AEK vs Enosis 18:00 AEK Arena, Larnaca
1.35 – 4.40 – 8.75 -Bet NOW with Winmasters

AEK wants to get back to winning ways. They have a chance here to cut the deficit on some of the leading teams. They are 11 points behind leaders Apollon, but with the form they are in now, anything is possible. Enosis is only 1 point ahead of the relegation zone so points are needed.

AEK was very close of a famous win last weekend where they lost the 0-2 lead against APOEL, but still their performance was good. AEK has now played seven games without a loss (3-4-0) and this includes all the matches against the Top-3 teams that they drew with. AEK is 6-2-2 at home and they have won their last two games at home to nil. They are full of confidence at the moment and should get the three points here.

Enosis has improved a lot on their away form but still they are the worst away team in the league with 1-2-7 record. In their last 6 away games though in all competition they have only lost once, beating for instance Anorthosis in the cup. They did beat AEK 2-1 at home earlier in the season so you cannot completely rule them out here.

Prediction:

AEK to win to nil.

-6 points = FC Pafos, Anorthosis
