Cyprus 1st Division Saturday 20 March previews

Cyprus 1st Division previews Saturday 30 March: All important Nicosia Derby

The Championship playoffs are already at their 4th round and APOEL and Apollon seem to be running away with it and fighting for the title. AEL and AEK are fighting for the 3rd spot but do not count out yet Nea Salamina nor Omonia who still have some tricks up their sleeves.

Saturday 30 March

AEK vs Apollon 17:00 AEK Arena, Larnaca
2.80 – 3.35 – 2.40 -Bet NOW with Winmasters

This is a vital match for both teams as neither can afford to lose points anymore after their losses in the last round. AEK is not just chasing the 3rd spot which would guarantee them Euro Cup football for next season but also, they want to keep the chasing pack behind them with a clear margin. Apollon on the other hand lost their top spot to APOEL after losing to them in the last round. They cannot afford to drop more points here and let APOEL increase the 1 point lead.

AEK struggled against Nea Salamina to find the net but that was an away game. At home this should be a different story. Their AEK Arena is a fortress to them and teams will find it hard to earn points. Apollon has found that out as they have only beaten AEK away once in their last 10 games in Larnaca.

The teams drew their opening two match this season but now a draw would not help either team (loss even less though). AEK has won their last 4 home games in the league without conceding a goal. It shows that their defense is solid and AEK Arena is a difficult place for the opponent to play. On the other hand Apollon has won their last 4 away games in the league with a goal difference of 12-1. They will not bow down easily.

With a tight game the goals are at a minimum. Under 2.5 goals with 1.86 odds.

Nea Salamina vs AEL 18:30 N. Papas Group Ammochostos-Epistrofi, Larnaca
3.40 – 3.30 – 2.00 -Bet NOW with Winmasters

Nea Salamina was expected to just enjoy making it into the Top-6 but that has not been the case. They have started the playoffs with good form after drawing with APOEL and Omonia and beating AEK in the last game. If they can keep this up, they might even challenge for a Euro Cup place this season. In order for that to happen, they need to beat 3rd placed AEL whose start to the playoffs has been abysmal with 3 straight losses. A loss here could really make them start looking over their shoulder.

Nea Salamina has made their success with excellent defending. In these three playoff games they have conceded only 1 goal. At the same time though they have only scored 2 so they might find it difficult to turn games around if the opponent managed to score. That though has not been the case when these two teams have met this season with both games having 5 goals each. Nea Salamina won at home 4-1 and AEL won at Limassol 3-2. This game though is more important so we might not see goals galore here.

AEL had a problem last season and later on this season in playing well against the top teams. They started well but whereas the opponents game has improved, AEL´s has remained the same. Their first three games in the playoffs have ended in losses with a goal difference of 1-7. The defense does not hold and the offense does not score goals. This can cause a problem to them in future games.

Nea Salamina can win here. Home win.

APOEL vs Omonia 19:00 GSP Stadium, Nicosia
1.37 – 4.40 – 7.75 -Bet NOW with Winmasters

APOEL has dominated the Nicosia Derby in recent years and they will want that to continue so they can keep the title chase going. Omonia though are not totally out of the Euro Cup fight yet and they would love nothing else than to make APOEL´s title fight more difficult.

APOEL has a problem and that is playing against good defensive outfits. They are good enough tactically to beat teams like Apollon, but when they face a highly defensive team, they require something special or luck to score against them. Nea Salamina and AEK are good examples. Luckily for them, Omonia is not a good defensive team. The matches against Omonia have been tight but still they have managed to score 2 goals against them in both games. This makes them more closer to winning.

Omonia has struggled this season offensively with Matt Derbyshire firing blanks and the others not that much helping. They did get a great 3-1 win over AEL in their last game but even that one they left it late. They need a win here though to keep their chances of making it into the Top-4 going.

APOEL to win with both teams to score.
