APOEL always start as favourites to win the league as they have the biggest budget in the league. This year though, their team has changed a bit more than previous seasons. Their manager Thomas Christiansen did not sign a new contract and eventually joined Leeds in the English Championship. Also their top scorer Pieros Soteriou was sold to FC Copenhagen. From other regular started Inagi Astiz moved to Pogon Szeczecin in Poland and Giannis Gianniotas returned to his parent club Olympiakos Pireaus.

They started the season with former Feyernoord manager Mario Been in charge but he only lasted 3 games. They knocked out Dudelange on the Champions League 2nd qualifying round but then lost in the 1st leg of the 3rd qualifying round to Viitorul 1-0. This was enough for the APOEL management and they sacked him as they were afraid that qualification to the Champions League group stages was in jeopardy. Their former manager Giorgos Donis took over and he managed to knock out Viitorul at home 4-0 after extra time to progress. They are now guaranteed at least a Europa League group stages spot.

Donis is a tactical manager who can change things in the middle of the game. APOEL has been playing recently with a 4-2-3-1 formation with 1 striker. In the middle of the match it can be changed into a 4-1-4-1 or a 4-4-2.

Players in: Neofytos Michael (Nea Salamina – moved on loan to Aris Limassol), GK Rafael Romo (AEL Limassol – Moved on loan to Beerchot Wilrijk), DF Kypros Christoforou (Aris Limassol), DF Jesus Rueda (Beitar Jerusalem), FW Mickael Pote (Adana Demirspor), MF Tommy Oar (Brisbane Roar), FW Minas Antoniou (Aris Limassol), MF Agustin Farias (Palestino), FW Andreas Markis (Walsall), DF Carlao (On loan from Torino), MF Lucas Souza (AEL Limassol)

Players out: FW David Barral (Cadiz), FW Pieros Soteriou (FC Copenhagen), Inaki Astiz (Pogon Szczecin), DF Kyriakos Aretas (Alki Oroklini), MF Georgios Christodolou (on loan to Aris Limassol), MF Giannis Gianniotas (loan return to Olympiakos), MF Roger Canas (loan return to Astana), Cedric Yambere (loan return to Bordeaux)

They are the favourites to win the title but we believe they will not win it this year unless they sign a couple of more star players.

Prediction 3rd.
