Over the years, this game has been regarded as an easy 3 pointer for APOEL. In fact Doxa has beaten APOEL only once in their history and that was back in the 2015/16 season when in January Doxa scored a late added time penalty to win 1-2. There are not many who believe that Doxa could get anything from this game either even though there are plenty of reasons why they could leave the field with a point or three.

This match is played on a Friday which is not a usual day to play in Cyprus. The last time APOEL played on a Friday was before the Spurs game and they drew 0-0 with Aris Limassol. In the end they could have even lost that match if it was not for a couple of key saves by Boy Waterman. This match comes quite soon after the international qualifiers and only 3 days after Cyprus´s 4-0 loss to Belgium. APOEL had Giorgos Merkis and Nektarios Alexandrou play in the starting line-up in that game. Normally neither is a regular starter, but with Carlao struggling to get fit for the Dortmund game on Wednesday, Merkis might be needed.  From their normal starting line-up players Roland Sallai played yesterday with Hungary and Praxitelis Vouros played on the 10th with the Greek U21 team so they might not be as fresh either. They already have had many injuries this season with Oar, Efrem, Carlao, Milanov and Ebecilio missing in their last games so they have been lacking quite a lot of quality. They are all close to returning but not sure if they would be risked in this game.

Also, it is not like APOEL results have been good so far in the league. After a good win over Nea Salamis in the opening match they have managed to beat only Alki thanks to an added time goal just before the international break. They lost to Anorthosis and drew with Aris, so the team has plenty of catch up to do in the league for all those lost points. APOEL has struggled to create enough good chances so far this season and a lot can be put down to the fact that they have missed wingers Efrem and Oar. Aloneftis has played well but he is already 34-years old and he cannot play week in-week out at the same level, especially as they also have the Champions League matches in the middle. APOEL has also missed a proper attacking midfielder to hold the ball and create chances. They have missed one ever since De Vincenti left.

Doxa, on the other hand, has been playing above expectations. They are 4th in the table with 10 points from 6 matches. They have a good group of individual players who seem to be playing well also as a team. They already have 7 different players who have scored this season and that number could have been even bigger. So far they have beaten the teams who are expected to fight for similar positions at the end of season and lost to the big teams without scoring. They lost 2-0 to Anorthosis and 1-0 to AEL but in both matches, they had a few chances and could have scored. Defensively they made a couple of errors which costed goals but overall they are capable of having a solid defense.

In conclusion, we have the Cypriot giants who are out of form in the league, having players who were on international duty just 3 days ago and have key players still injured playing their home game on not their usual stadium without their fans against a team who has beaten them only once ever in their history. And the odds for APOEL to win is 1.16..

All in all with all the issues APOEL has, the odds for them are way too low but considering their history with Doxa, any bet against them would not have value. Best bet here is betting Doxa with handicaps as unless Doxa defense has a meltdown, APOEL offense is not good enough to score too many goals. Doxa +1.5AH.
