Cyprus 1st Division previews 22 December

This is the final round before the winter break. The big match of the round is between AEL and Anorthosis on Sunday. A win there for the hosts would make sure they stay on top for the break. On Saturday AEK Larnaca will try to stop their winless streak against rivals Nea Salamina.

FC Pafos vs Apollon 17:00 Stadio Stelio Kyriakides, Paphos
8.25 – 4.50 – 1.35 -Bet NOW with Winmasters

FC Pafos is finding form finally after early struggles this season. They have gotten a couple of big results recently by beating AEK in their last home game and then earning a 2-2 draw against Anorthosis in their last game. Now they face the favourite to win the title, Apollon Limassol.

Apollon has dropped points recently with a 5-1 loss to APOEL and a 3-3 draw with AEK on Monday. They struggled in those games to break through the high press of their opponents. Also with Youste still missing, they are not defending so well in set pieces.

Another thing that affected Apollon is that they have been playing two games a week for a while now. Europa League is now over and their players will not suffer from fatigue that much anymore. They will be able to play more on their actual level.

FC Pafos will get back Zivulic and Banggaard, who did not play against Anorthosis. Lorran and Zacharius are also ready. The only missing player is Rasic.

Apollon will still not have their head coach Augusti in the bench. Apart from the known missing players Yuste and Sachetti, Apollon will be without Stylianos, Fopala and also Joao Pedro who are doubts.

FC Pafos were able to held AEK in their last home game, but Apollon offense is the best in the league and they should be able to score at least twice. Offensively Pafos might be able to get a goal from a set piece, but most likely no other way as they do not have similar players who can press high up the field like APOEL and AEK had. Apollon to win with over 2.5 goals. Potentially 1-2 final score.

APOEL vs Ermis 18:00 GSP Stadium, Nicosia
1.16 – 6.40 – 17.50 -Bet NOW with Winmasters

APOEL and its players are finding form just before the transfer window opens up. They are now 2nd with only 2 points behind leaders AEL. Most importantly though they are still close to Apollon who they consider as their main threat. APOEL can afford to make their team stronger in January and now they again have a chance to win a yet another league title. But still now they have some problems and without their winger Al Tamari, their offense would not be as succesful as it is now.

Ermis Aradippou has changed their manager already twice this season and now this will be the first match for Italian Stefano Cusin. Ermis has had an awful start to their season as they are bottom of the league with only 7 points. They are better than their standings would say, but the team lacks self confidence and they seem to slip into narrow defeats always. Ermis has conceded a lot of goals recently, but an Italian manager should help with that.

With two Italian managers, this could become a very tactical match with not that many goals. Under 3.5 goals is the main pick.

AEK vs Nea Salamina 19:00 AEK Arena, Larnaca
1.60 – 3.80 – 5.10 -Bet NOW with Winmasters

AEK has dropped to some poor form despite earning a 3-3 away draw against Apollon in the last game. Now they will face Nea Salamina who also have some struggles lately and they are close to dropping out of the top-6.

AEK did score 3 goals against Apollon but most of the times, they have struggled in finding the net. They have scored 17 times in 11 games which is a lot less than what the top-3 teams have scored. Defensively they are the best in the league, but occationally they are a bit too overly careful. Because of the Europa League, AEK’s schedule has been a bit mixed. They have only played 4 matches at home this season so when that evens out, their performances will improve, especially as they are one of the best home teams in the league.

Nea Salamina started the season by drawing with AEK. They continued that with some really good results and performances. Lately though they have struggled in finding the net. They have scored 18 goals this season but none in the last three. They did score 4 goals in their mid-week win in the Cup against 2nd division PAEEK. They now have to find that similar form in the league.

With both teams having hard times in finding the net recently, the main pick is under 2.5 goals.
