Can all of the Top-4 teams win at home this weekend? – Cyprus 2nd Division previews for Game Week 14

Here are the Cyprus 2nd Division previews for the Game Week 14.

The small winter break is over and the 2nd Division teams are ready to battle it out again for promotion and relegation. All of the Top-4 teams play at home this weekend. On Friday Ethnikos Achna hosts MEAP Nisou and Olympiakos hosts Karmiotissa. On Saturday Othellos hosts Akritas and on Sunday Aris Limassol hosts PAEEK.

Friday 4 January

Ethnikos Achna vs MEAP Nisou 18:00 Dasaki Stadium

Ethnikos Achna is currently on 2nd position, two points behind leaders Olympiakos. They are the only undefeated team remaining in this division. They had some problems beating teams at the beginning of the season and played many draws. Now this seems to have ended as they have won their last 4 games. At home they are 4-3-0 this season. Offensively they have been good, but defensively they have only managed to keep one clean sheet at home this season (0-0 with Aris). Now they will have another chance as they face the worst offensive team in the league, MEAP Nisou.

The newly promoted team from Nisou has had a tough season. They have had a couple of good wins, but especially away from home they have struggled. They only have 4 points from their 7 away games and in those 7 games they failed to score in 4 of them. Their away goal difference is 4-16. If they do not improve on their offense soon, they are really looking like a team that will get relegated.

Prediction: Ethnikos should be too good of a team for MEAP here. A little reservation as the teams come from a break, but home team to win by at least 2 goals is the pick.

Olympiakos vs Karmiotissa 19:00 Makareio Stadium, Nicosia

This should have been one of the top games of the round, but the former 1st Division team Karmiotissa are going through bad form at the moment having lost 3 of their last 4 games. This has already dropped them to 8th position and the Top-3 are already 6 points ahead. Olympiakos is the front runner in the promotion fight. They have a great offense that has scored 30 goals in 13 games so far which is 2nd best ratio in the league after Othellos. After losing their opening two matches, they have won 9 and drawn two. At home they are 5-1-1 this season but surprisingly they have only managed to keep one clean sheet in those games (2-0 MEAP Nisou).

Karmiotissa has been a great home team but awful on the road with a 1-1-4 record. Their only win came against Ayia Napa 1-3 back in early October. To put things into perspective, another great home team Othellos beat them 5-0 in their last away match. That was their 3rd away game this season where they failed to score a goal.

Prediction: Olympiakos to win with over 2.5 goals in the match

Saturday 5 January

Omonia Aradippou vs Onisilos 14:30 Dimotiko Stadio Aradippou

Omonia Aradippou has been probably the most inconsistent team in the league. They lost their last home game 2-4 against PAEEK, but then went and beat a tough Ayia Napa team 0-4 away from home. They are also together with Akritas, the only teams who have not played a draw yet this season. Their five wins and 8 losses puts them to 10th position but only two points ahead of the relegation zone.

Onisilos has been the surprise team this season as they are currently 5th in the league. They have not played especially great, but they have been fairly consistent which has kept them high in the standings. They were on a 7-game undefeated run, which ended though in the last round with a 0-1 loss to Ethnikos Achna at home. They are undefeated in their last 4 away games with 2 wins and 2 draws. They have scored in every away game but they have also conceded in every away game.

Prediction: Omonia is a decent home team but they only win if they can keep a clean sheet. Onisilos has enough fire power to score here so Onisilos to win is the main pick.

Anagennisi Deryneia vs Ayia Napa 14:30 Gipedo Anagennisi Deryneias

Anagennisi is slowly but surely climbing out of the bottom and are just above the relegation zone at the moment thanks to their last 4 games without a defeat (2W 2D). They are still heavily reliant on their home form where they have won their last 3 games. This needs to stay strong as they are one of the worst away teams in the league with only 2 draws from 7 games.

Ayia Napa lost their opening 4 games, but then improved by playing 7 games without a defeat. Now the bad form is back as they have lost their last two games to Ethnikos Achna and Omonia Aradippou. They are now tied in points with their hosts.

Prediction: This is a derby game so there should not be much between these teams. Anagennisi beat Ayia Napa last season twice without conceding and are now on better form so the pick here is home win.

Othellos vs Akritas 14:30 Gipedo Othellos Athienou

Othellos has been one of the top teams in the 2nd Division for years but they always seem to miss that last piece which would push them for promotion. This season they look really good at home having the best home record 6-1-0. They and Ethnikos Achna are the only teams without a loss at home this season. Their home goal difference is 23-3. However in three games they won 5-0, 6-0 and 7-1 which has given them the goals. In the other matches they only won by 1 goal and drew 0-0 with Ethnikos.

Akritas has been an interesting team this season with plenty of goals and entertainment. They are together with Omonia Aradippou the only teams without a draw this season with 6 wins and 7 losses. They are a better home team than away as they have won only 2 and lost 5 on the road this season. With the exception of their opening round 0-1 surprise win over Olympiakos, they have conceded at least 2 goals in every singel away match this season. All five games they have lost on the road have been with at least 2 goals.

Prediction: Othellos to win by at least 2 goals.

ASIL Lysi vs EN THOI Lakatamia 14:30 Neo GSZ Stadium

ASIL Lysi lost during the week to Ermis in the Cyprus Cup 3-0, but before that they had lost only once in their last 5 games in the league. At home especially they have been good winning 3 and drawing one from their last 4 home games. That draw came in their last home game against leaders Olympiakos. ASIL Lysi is currently 6th, six points from a top-3 spot. They do not look like earning promotion this season, but they might in the next couple of years.

EN THOI Lakatamia has been an excellent defensive team this season conceding only 10 goals in 13 games which is the 2nd best ratio in the league behind Ethnikos Achna. But unlike Ethnikos, EN THOI does not score many goals. Their 11 goals so far is the 2nd worst record in the league. They have now played also 5 games without a win and in those games they have managed to score only 1 goal. That goal came in their last match against Othellos at home, 1-1. Away from home they have been good, but they have lost their last two matches without scoring  a goal.

Prediction: Tight game, ASIL Lysi to win by exactly 1 goal. 1-0 or 2-1.

Digenis Voroklinis vs AE Zakakiou 14:30 Dimotiko Gimnastirio Agias Paraskevis

This is an important game for both teams regarding relegation. Digenis is currently 14th and Zakakiou is bottom of the table 16th. Both teams are though on 12 points from 13 games. Digenis beat MEAP Nisou 3-1 in their last home game but that is their only win in their last 7 matches (1-1-5). They have struggled defensively as their 28 goals conceded is the highest in the league. They have only managed one clean sheet so far this season.

AE Zakakiou is definitely not where they want to be at the moment. The former 1st Division team has not won in their last 8 games, but 3 draws from their last 4 games shows improvement. They also have a bad defensive record with 23 goals conceded in 13 games. They themselves have scored only 13 goals but 7 of those have come in their last 4 games.

Prediction: Zakakiou is the slightly better team. Both teams to score is the main pick but also AEZ draw no bet.

Sunday 6 January

Aris vs PAEEK 14:30 Tsirion Athlitiko Kentro

Aris Limassol is five points behind leaders Olympiakos but they desperate to win promotion back to the 1st Division. At the moment it looks like a battle between Olympiakos, Ethnikos Achna and Aris. The Limassol team is a bit behind at the moment and they did just sign portuguese forward Romeu Torres to help them especially with goals. Aris has struggled a bit away from home (2-2-2) but at home they have been solid (5-1-1) losing only to leaders Olympiakos. At home they do not struggle with goals as they have scored at least 2 goals in every home game except the 1-0 win against AE Zakakiou in a derby game.

PAEEK is 15th at the moment and relegation looks possible for them. They have been a strange team as they mainly struggle at home (1-1-4). Away from home they beat Omonia Aradippou 2-4 in their last game and they have the 6th best away record in the league (2-2-3). They do concede too many goals on the road. With the exception of the opening away match 0-2 win over ASIL Lysi, they have conceded at least 2 goals in every away game. At the same time they have failed to score once (Akritas 3-0).

Prediction: Aris to win with both teams to score. Over 3.5 goals as well.
