Cyprus 2nd Division previews: League leaders have an easy game on Saturday?

Here are the Cyprus 2nd Division previews for the Game Week 17.

There are 14 rounds left of the 2nd Division and the top teams are slowly pulling away from the rest of the pack. League leaders Olympiakos have a 3 point gap on Ethnikos Achna and they have a supposedly easy match against relegation threatened PAEEK on Saturday. Ethnikos Achna has a tough away trip to Aradippou against Omonia. Othellos hosts Onisilos who are on a 4-game losing streak and on Sunday´s final game, 4th places Aris Limassol will host another relegation threatened MEAP Nisou.

EN THOI Lakatamia vs Digenis Voroklinis 19:00 Stadio Lakatamias

EN THOI Lakatamia got a big 2-1 win over Karmiotissa last weekend which ended their 7-game streak of without a win. EN THOI had changed their game a bit more offensive as they have been the 2nd worst offensive team in the league so far. Their two goals against Karmiotissa made their overall tally now at 14 goals in 16 games. At home they are very difficult to beat with a 2-4-2 record. This is due to their highly defensive tactics as they have only conceded 9 goals in their 8 home games so far (Olympiakos scored 4 of those). Draws are no longer enough as they are only 1 point ahead of the relegation zone. More goals are now expected.

Digenis has never had any problems with goals as they have scored 19 goals this season in total. They have also scored a goal in 8 consecutive games. Despite this, they only won one of those 8 games and lost 7. This just shows that their defense has been awful and because of that, they are second from bottom with only 12 points from 16 games. They have conceded 36 goals which is the worst record in the whole league. They are also the only team in the league not to win an away game this season. Their record on the road is 0-2-6.

Prediction: EN THOI should be able to find a net against the worst defense in the league. Digenis is capable of scoring against anyone so both teams to score is the main pick. Some bookies offer Double chance 1X and EN THOI + Both teams to score at 2.00 odds which is a must. EN THOI to win with both teams to score with 3.00 odds values a small bet.

Othellos vs Onisilos 19:00 Gipedo Othellos Athienou

3rd Placed Othellos has been the best home team in the league so far with 7 wins and 1 draw from their 8 home games. They and Ethnikos are the only teams not to lose at home this season. They are 5 points behind Olympiakos at the moment so promotion is still very much a possibility. Their best weapon is their offense that has scored 38 goals so far with Olympiakos´ 39 the only better one. At home they have scored 28 goals and conceded only 5. That is an average of 3.5 goals per game. In their last two home games against Karmiotissa and Akritas they have scored 5 goals in each. Othellos has now played 24 games at home in the 2nd division without a loss. Their last loss was almost exactly 2 years ago to ASIL Lysi 0-2. Since then they have won 19 and drawn 5.

Onisilos had a good start to the season but have now lost 4 games in a row. All those losses though were against very solid teams. They lost 0-2 to Anagennisi who are on top of the form table. They lost 0-1 to Ethnikos Achna who are on 2nd position and to Aris Limassol who are 4th. All these matches were at home. They also lost 4-2 to Omonia Aradippou who are a good home team. At home they are a much defensive team with 6-8 goal difference in 8 games. Away from home though, every single game has ended in both teams scoring with goal difference 14-18.

Prediction: Main pick here is both teams to score. No reason to doubt that Onisilos could not score here as they have done in every single away game this season. Othellos to win with both teams to score will give over 3 odds which is also tempting.

Omonia Aradippou vs Ethnikos Achna 14:30 Dimotiko Stadio Aradippou

Omonia Aradippou has had a very inconsistent season. They lost 5 games in a row between October and November. Since December they have won 3, lost 3 and drawn 1. Their only good thing this season has been their home games where they have won 5 and lost 3 so far. Against the top teams though, they have lost to both Othellos and Olympiakos at home by exactly 2 goals. They are currently 10th in the league with 19 points but the team in the last relegation spot, Akritas, also has 19 points so more points are needed to secure 2nd division football in Aradippou also for next season.

Ethnikos is really looking for promotion back to the 1st Division this season. They are currenly 2nd just 3 points behind leaders Olympiakos. They have only suffered one loss this season in the league and that came this year against AE Zakakiou 2-1. They bounced back immediately from that loss by defeating Digenis Voroklinis 1-3 last weekend. Ethnikos might have an issue with tiredness as they played on Wednesday in the Cyprus Cup against Karmiotissa losing 2-1. This will thus be their 4th away game in a row. Ethnikos is 4-3-1 away from home this season.

Prediction: It will be interesting to see if Sidnei can punish his old team here as he moved from Ethnikos to Omonia during this transfer window. Omonia cannot keep a clean sheet here, but Ethnikos has also struggled defensively so the main pick is Ethnikos to win with both teams to score.

Anagennisi Deryneia vs AE Zakakiou 14:30 Gipedo Anagennisi Deryneias

This is a match between the two most in-form teams in the league. Anagennisi is on a 7-match unbeaten run where they have won five and drawn two. This fine form has lifted them up to already 6th position in the league, but the Top-3 is still 7 points away. More importantly the relegation zone 5 points away. At home especially they have been good by winning their last 4 games with a goal difference of 9-2.

AE Zakakiou is also in form as they are unbeaten in their last 5 games and having won their last 3. They have found a way to score goals and the results have followed. They have climbed already to 8th position and they are 3 points behind Anagennisi. Their away form (2-1-5) has been poor, but their last two way matches have ended in a draw against MEAP and in a win against Digenis.

Prediction: AE Zakakiou beat Anagennisi 1-0 earlier in the season but now the home team is on form. Last season the points were shared 2-2. The main pick here is both teams to score but also a home win. Anagennisi has been in good form at home whereas AEZ has struggled in their away games.

ASIL Lysi vs Ayia Napa 14:30 Neo GSZ, Larnaca

ASIL Lysi has been in good form recently winning 4 and drawing 2 of their last 6 games. They are 5th at the moment, but promotion seems to be still a bit too far ahead this season. Their recent home form has been excellent having won 4 and drawing 1 of their last 5 home games. Even that only draw came against leaders Olympiakos. They beat Ayia Napa 1-2 earlier in the season but this might be a bit more difficult with the recent resurrection of the Ayia Napa team.

Ayia Napa got a couple of players from Enosis and their last two games have gone well. They beat Aris 1-0 and then they drew against Othellos 0-0 so defensively they have been really good against top opposition. Their bad form start of the season though has put them in a position where they are fighting to avoid relegation and they are just above the relegation zone by goal difference. They are better than what their current position would let you believe.

Prediction: Under 2.5 goals.

Olympiakos vs PAEEK 14:30 Makareio Stadium, Nicosia

Olympiakos are the league leaders and ever since they lost to PAEEK in the second match of the season, they have not lost a game. They are 11-3 in their last 14 games. At home they are 5-2-1 but their only loss came in the opening match of the season. Their biggest strength is scoring goals as their 39 goals this season is the highest in the league. Defensively they could be a bit more solid as at home they have only managed one clean sheet this season and that was against the worst offensive team in the league, MEAP Nisou. Olympiakos drew their last home game 1-1 with Karmiotissa, but since then they won twice away from home scoring 4 goals in both games.

PAEEK is bottom of the league having earned only 12 points from their 16 games. They have only gotten 5 points from their last 14 games and have lost their last 3 games. Their performances have improved, but the schedule has been against them. In their last 4 games, all their opponents have been in the Top-6. Olympiakos will not make it any easier. PAEEK has been decent away from home with a 2-2-4 record. At home their only win was against Olympiakos. The crucial time for PAEEK will be after this game as their next 8 games will be against teams in the bottom half. That will decide if PAEEK will get themselves clear from relegation.

Prediction: Olympiakos should win this, but PAEEK is capable of scoring so home win with both teams to score. You can start betting on PAEEK after this round.

Karmiotissa vs Akritas 14:30 Dimotiko Stadio Pano Polemidias

Karmiotissa is a team who are excellent at home and horrible away from home. They lost to EN THOI Lakatamia in the last round exactly because of this. At home though they are 5-2-1 this season and that home form also gave them a 2-1 home win against Ethnikos Achna. At home they have scored in each of their home games, but they have only kept a clean sheet in two games at home so far.

Akritas started the season really well but in their last 5 games they have only gotten 1 point with a goal difference of 6-18. Their defense has been really poor and this bad form has dropped them into the relegation zone for the first time this season. Akritas is 2-0-6 from their away games this season with their only wins coming in the opening round against Olympiakos and against fellow strugglers MEAP Nisou. All the other 6 games they have lost. They have conceded by far the most goals of any team away from home this season, 24.

Prediction: Karmiotissa to win with both teams to score.

Sunday 27 January

Aris vs MEAP Nisou 14:30 Tsirion Athlitiko Kentro

Aris Limassol is desperate to win this match as league leaders Olympiakos are already 6 points ahead. Aris has been excellent at home, but it is their away form that has kept them from challenging for the top spots. Aris also suffered a bad loss in the Cup during the week when they lost 4-1 to FC Pafos and got knocked out of the Cup having led 2-1 after the first leg. Aris has been a good home team this season having dropped points only in a 2-2 draw with Othellos and 2-3 loss to Olympiakos.

MEAP Nisou is in a tough spot as they have not won in their last 7 games and they have lost their last 3 away games. It looks very difficult for them to get out of the relegation zone especially as they are the worst offensive team in the league. They have scored only 10 goals in 16 games this season and only 5 away from home. They did manage to score in both of their last two away games but they still ended up losing 3-1 to Digenis and 5-1 to Ethnikos. They are 1-1-6 away from home with their only win coming against bottom club PAEEK.

Prediction: Four out of 8 away games for MEAP have gone under 2.5 goals. Aris has had 3 out of 8 home games gone under 2.5 goals. PAEEK will struggle to score goals and a tired Aris might be happy just to score one or two. Under 2.5 goals has some value in this match.
