Cyprus 1st Division previews Saturday 21 September, 2019

Omonia vs Apollon 18:00 GSP Stadium

The big match on Saturday is played in Nicosia where league leaders Omonia host last season´s number two Apollon Limassol. Apollon is the slight favourite and when looking back the recent history between the teams, this is justified. Apollon has beaten Omonia in nine of their last ten matches in the First Division.

This Omonia team though seems to be different this season. Their head coach Henning Berg has gotten them to play good football and the players they got during the summer have strengthen the team. They have gotten 7 points from their opening 3 games and it should have been also a win in their last match against AEK Larnaca where their good looking goal was disallowed. Needless to say though. Omonia looks like a team that can challenge for the Top-3.

Apollon Limassol has only played one match so far where they fought a close contest against FC Pafos beating them 3-2. Omonia will provide a better defensive display than the Pafos team, but can they score against the Limassol Blue-whites? Apollon is still waiting for Valentin Roberge to get fully match fit which means that their defense is not in full strength yet.

The main pick is Omonia draw no bet here. There will be over 10k fans at the stadium and they can get Omonia for the win.

AEL vs Doxa 20:00 Tsirion Stadium

Saturday´s evening game will be played at the Tsirion stadium where AEL is looking for an easy win against Doxa. In truth though, it will be anything but easy. AEL is not as good this season as they were last. They did not strengthen their team much during summer and a European cup position this season will be difficult to achieve.

Doxa has not changed much from last season which means that the same problems still exist with the team. After they lost Berat Sadik to Spain in January, their goal scoring completely stopped. They have not been able to replace him. Still their defense is still experienced and good plus they have a good goalkeeper so they will never lose with a big margin. They still have a solid team and the fact that they play with each other for another season makes them dangerous.

AEL might struggle finding the net. Doxa can get something. X2 double chance
